Date: 2014
Status: In Progress

KTV is a proposal for a Chinese American Cultural Center and Karaoke Club in Flushing, Queens.
New York City is home to the largest Chinese population outside of Asia. Queens, with nearly 210,000 Chinese American inhabitants, has the largest Chinese population of the five boroughs.
KTV consists of a set of multi-purpose community program elements stacked vertically on a small corner lot near Flushing Main Street. At ground level, a soaring entry is tucked behind a jewel-like event space staged on the prominent street corner. Levels three and four contain karaoke rooms and community spaces. The second floor acts as the visual focus of the building, hosting a dramatic outdoor space that acts as a neighborhood meeting point, event space and public amenity. It’s main feature, the Skylantern, is an undulating, interactive light sculpture consisting of 3,000 color-changing, dimmable LEDs, that is illuminated during festivals and major events. Skylantern will be responsively programmed to react uniquely to time of day, occasion, and user feedback.
